Albert Boy Situmorang’s main area of practice is Competition, Antitrust and Trade law. 

Since joining the firm in September 2014, he has regularly advised clients on a broad spectrum of adversarial and non-adversarial competition law matters including vertical restriction, cartel and merger control issues. He has advised clients and made representation in merger filings for firms operating across a variety of industries, including mining, flat glass, chemicals, cement, transport, media, automotive, e-commerce, ride-hailing, fintech, online travel agency, packaging, heavy machinery, and energy.

In addition to competition & antitrust, Albert also advises clients on consumer protection and halal regulation and certification. He has a comprehensive understanding of halal regulations and are well-trained for halal certification process in Indonesia, including the implementation of halal product assurance system in businesses.

Albert holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Indonesia and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Sahid Jakarta. He also has a master’s degree in law and economics from the European Master Law and Economics Program, as part of which he studied at three different universities (the University of Bologna, University of Hamburg, and Erasmus University of Rotterdam) as part of the Erasmus Mundus program.

As a testament to his capabilities, Albert has been recognised as an “Up and Coming” lawyer in Competition/Antitrust by Chambers Asia Pacific 2023-2024, and listed as one of Indonesia 50 Future Legal Leaders, in the Asia Business Law Journal Indonesia 50 Future Legal Leaders 2023.

Competition Law

  • Representing a global car air conditioner manufacturer in an investigation of cartel conduct.
  • Represented the biggest car distributor in Indonesia in an investigation of monopolisation conduct.
  • Represented Meratus, a leading Indonesian shipping company, in its appeal to the District Court in relation to the Indonesia Competition Commission (“KPPU”)’s decision of price fixing allegation against Meratus and three other shipping companies.
  • Represented the Japfa Group as the defendant in the late merger filing case before KPPU, in the appeal process before the South Jakarta District Court and in the cassation in the Supreme Court.
  • Assisted PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing, the second biggest manufacture of motorcycle, before the Indonesia Competition Commission (KPPU). We provided defence strategies and represented the client in its appearances before the KPPU.
  • Assisted PT JapfaComfeed Indonesia Tbk, the second biggest poultry breeder, against a DOC production cartel allegation before the KPPU.
  • Assisted PT Asahimas Chemical, the biggest Indonesian producer of caustic soda and PVC, during the study of the salt industry by KPPU.
  • Assisted PT Nissan Motor Distributor Indonesia, the sole distributor of Nissan, during the study of the car industry by KPPU.
  • Assisted PT Angkasa Pura I against an exclusive dealing agreement allegation in the aviation industry before the KPPU.

  • Assisted PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk in the KPPU merger notification for the acquisition of 50.1% shares in PT Andalan Bersama Investama.
  • Represented PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk and its subsidiaries in KPPU merger filings in relation to the share acquisition of several companies, e.g., PT Swift Shipment Solutions, PT Kripto Maksima Koin, PT RAMA Multifinance, PT Tokopedia, Moka Technology Solutions Pte.   • Performed the 2012 Competition Audit for PT Asahimas Flat Glass Tbk, the biggest producer of flat glass and car glass.
